       Introduced  by  Sen.  GRIFFO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern-
         ment Operations
       AN ACT to amend the  public  officers  law,  in  relation  to  residency
         requirements for paid firefighters in the city of Utica
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 3 of the public officers law is amended by adding a
    2  new subdivision 60 to read as follows:
    3    60. IN THE CITY  OF  UTICA  IN  THE  COUNTY  OF  ONEIDA,  NEITHER  THE
    4  PROVISIONS  OF  THIS  SECTION, NOR OF ANY GENERAL, SPECIAL OR LOCAL LAW,
    5  CHARTER, CODE, ORDINANCE, RESOLUTION, RULE OR  REGULATION,  REQUIRING  A
    6  PERSON TO BE A RESIDENT OF THE POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OR MUNICIPAL CORPO-
    7  RATION  OF  THE  STATE  FOR WHICH HE SHALL BE CHOSEN OR WITHIN WHICH HIS
    8  OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO BE  EXERCISED,  SHALL  APPLY  TO  THE
    9  APPOINTMENT  OF  A  PAID  MEMBER  OF  THE UNIFORMED FORCE OF A PAID FIRE
   10  DEPARTMENT, WHO, FOR PURPOSES OF  THIS  SECTION  SHALL  INCLUDE  PERSONS
   11  EMPLOYED AS FIRE ALARM DISPATCHERS, IF SUCH PERSON RESIDES: (A) IN ONEI-
   12  DA  COUNTY;  OR  (B)  IN  A COUNTY WITHIN THE STATE CONTIGUOUS TO ONEIDA
   13  COUNTY.
   14    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
