76th OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2011 Regular Session Enrolled House Resolution 1 Sponsored by Representative HUNT; Senator OLSEN Whereas the City of Gladstone, a community nestled on the north bank of the Clackamas River where it joins the Willamette River, will observe its centennial this year; and Whereas Gladstone was founded on January 10, 1911, by Harvey Edward Cross, who laid out the city's first streets and built homes and businesses; and Whereas Gladstone's rich historic roots are based on Native American culture and still recognized today in the symbolic Pow-Wow Tree, a big leaf maple that has stood for centuries marking the spot where tribes met to make trading agreements, settle community affairs and conduct wedding ceremonies; and Whereas the Willamette Valley Chautauqua Association has a deep presence in Gladstone, having made the city in its early days a center for social and cultural activities that are celebrated annually during Gladstone's Chautauqua Festival; and Whereas quality schools have been and remain a high priority for Gladstone parents and residents; and Whereas since its inception, the City of Gladstone has grown and transformed from a once small community of settlers to a bustling center with a population of approximately 12,000 people and with outstanding schools, infrastructure and a strong local business climate; and Whereas Gladstone has demonstrated statewide and national leadership by creating the Gladstone Center for Children and Families, bringing many different agencies and services together in one location with the singular focus of effectively serving Clackamas County children and their families; and Whereas the wealth of contributions made to Oregon by the City of Gladstone and its residents in the city's 100 years of existence are immense and appreciated; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly, in commemorating the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Gladstone, extend our gratitude and best wishes to those who live in and serve Gladstone. ---------- Adopted by House April 27, 2011 ---------------------------------- Ramona Kenady Line, Chief Clerk of House ---------------------------------- Enrolled House Resolution 1 (HR 1-A) Page 1 Bruce Hanna, Speaker of House ---------------------------------- Arnie Roblan, Speaker of House Enrolled House Resolution 1 (HR 1-A) Page 2
