A house RESOLUTION

 

TO HONOR AND THANK DWIGHT SMITH FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE AIKEN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MUCH SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS TO COME.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives has learned that Dwight Smith recently stepped down from his position as a member of the Aiken County Board of Education after two years of faithful service; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Smith was elected to the Aiken County Board of Education in 2010 and served until 2014. He also served from 2018 to 2024, after his re-election to this board. He spent his entire working career of thirty-eight years in a variety of roles. He started work at Graniteville High School as a teacher and coach; then at Jackson High School as a teacher, head football coach, and athletic director; next at North Augusta High School as a teacher and coach; then at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School as a teacher, head football coach, and athletic director; then at Midland Valley High School as its head football coach; next at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School as Assistant Principal; then at Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School as its assistant principal; and then finishing his educational career at Gloverville Elementary School as its principal; and

 

Whereas, in preparation for his life's work, Dwight Smith graduated from Graniteville High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Newberry College in physical education and recreation and a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, as a school board member, he represented the district's Area Three, which covers Byrd Elementary, Clearwater Elementary, Gloverville Elementary, Graniteville Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Warrenville Elementary, Highland Springs Middle, Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle, Leavelle McCampbell Middle, and Midland Valley High School; and

 

Whereas, Dr. Corey Murphy, superintendent of the district, offered these words in praise of Dwight Smith: "I think of three words when I think of Mr. Smith: his passion, his fire, and his dedication to the district and the community he served. His presence on the board will be greatly missed"; and

 

Whereas, grateful for Dwight Smith's outstanding service as both educator and Aiken County Board of Education member, the House takes great pleasure in wishing him all the best in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and thank Dwight Smith for his dedicated service as a member of the Aiken County Board of Education and extend best wishes for much success and fulfillment in the years to come.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dwight Smith.
