A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE SPARTANBURG CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM ON WINNING THE 2014 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (SCISA) CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO COMMEND THESE RUNNERS ON A STELLAR SEASON.

Whereas, on October 25, 2014, the Spartanburg Christian Academy boys cross country team topped all comers to win the 2014 SCISA Class AA state championship, defeating the Spartanburg Day Griffins 38-50; and

Whereas, excitement was especially intense during this title meet, held at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, because the Spartanburg Christian runners finished it by earning their first boys cross country state title in school history. By the time all was over, fans were already planning to return next year to see the Warriors repeat the feat and claim the crown once again; and

Whereas, determined to see his runners show the best that was in them, Coach Steve Conway drilled these athletes in hard work, self-discipline, and team spirit, and the crowning results speak for themselves; and

Whereas, Spartanburg Christian was led by Ben Christopher with a third-place finish (17:18), and Michael Burgess and Matthew Burgess were fifth and sixth, respectively, for the Warriors; and

Whereas, rightly proud of his team, Coach Conway marked the occasion with these words: "We are overwhelmed and overcome by God's rich blessings. The two trophies [i.e., for boys and girls] are tangible evidence of the incredible love this team has for our Lord, our school, and for each other. The tone was set by our seniors and has influenced each one of our runners. I'm so honored to be their coach"; and

Whereas, the House extends its best congratulations to Spartanburg Christian Academy and is pleased to add its collective voice of praise to the many accolades flowing in on the occasion of the school's winning its first boys cross country state title. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Spartanburg Christian Academy boys cross country team on winning the 2014 South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class AA State Championship title and commend these runners on a stellar season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Rob McDonald and Coach Steve Conway of Spartanburg Christian Academy.
