A house RESOLUTION
TO HONOR THE CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACHES ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2024 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, fully prepared for the challenge, the Clinton High School football team drove past Barnwell to finish the season with some highly coveted hardware and the 2024 Class AA State Championship on Thursday, December 12, 2024. It was Clinton's first state football title in fifteen years and its ninth in school history; and
Whereas, in capturing the title with a 35-6 win, the Clinton team did highly effectively what it does offensively -- pound the football and pound the football some more -- and its defense had its best game of the season in the biggest game of the year. Moreover, the momentum Clinton had brought to the game kept on going for the Red Devils and paid off. South Carolina State University's Oliver C. Dawson Stadium echoed with the cheers of exuberant Clinton fans, pleased to see their confident predictions of victory realized as a satisfying end to a fine 12-2 season; and
Whereas, such victories do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven consistency in both, Clinton's Head Coach Corey Fountain built his football program into a championship team that refused to settle for second best; and
Whereas, members of the 2024 championship team are Tushawan Richardson, Chris Fortman, Javen Cook, Austin Boyd, Amari Grant, K.J. Vance, Chris Boyd, Kason Copeland, Devin Swindler, Brett Young, Saphyre Tribble, Owen Glenn, Maison Tinsley, Jaydon Glenn, Bryson Perrin, Angelo Cromer, Graydon Watkins, D.J. Clark, A.Z. Simmons, Rhett Gilliam, Logan Havard, A'Javian James, Eric Cunningham, D'Markus Lyndsay, Noah Garrett, Zy Butler, Angel Vargas, Luke Young, Lincoln Alexander, Emmanuel Lagroon, Brayden Tucker, Kynius Williams, Brody Garrett, R.J. Johnson, Daniel Gossett, Deangelo Mattison, Adarrell Swindler, Jace Patterson, Clayton Lawson, Ashton Sherfield, Rion Gordon, Josh Brown, Shelby Dugas, Jafyrie Cunningham, Tristan Boyd, Tre Aiken, Jaevis McDowell, Cal Pitts, Dalton Nabors, Hunter Lawson, Jackson Nance, Elijah Davis, K.J. Smith, Jared Honeycutt, Jeff Sanchez, P.J. McGowan, Hayden Lollis, Lukas Kuykendall, Jacob Lindler, and Jared Willard; and
Whereas, the championship football team was supported by committed Red Devil football staff members, including Head Coach Corey Fountain; Assistant Coaches Louie Alexander, Dontavius Glenn, Ethan Campbell, Bobby Jones, Tosh Corley, Peyton Spangler, Lavadrick Glenn, Jake Williams, James Davis, Hayden Rogers, Clay Cotney, and Sam Tiller. Other strong support came from Bradley Gardner, scorekeeper; Bryland James, manager; Louie Alexander, athletic director; Adam Howell, director of strength and conditioning; Thomas Hellams, character coach; Dr. Nora Ann Pace, athletic trainer; Phillip Milner and Stan Walsh, team doctors; Charles Steele, videographer; and Jayson Glenn, Will Corley, and Brady Fountain, ball boys; and
Whereas, the Red Devils have given their school and community reason to be proud of their accomplishments, and the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in adding their collective voice to the many encomiums flowing in to this outstanding group of young athletes. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor the Clinton High School football team and coaches on their impressive win of the 2024 Class AA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Martha Brothers, principal, and Head Coach Corey Fountain of Clinton High School.
