A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JOHN PADGETT, THE LEGISLATIVE LIAISON FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER FIFTEEN YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM MANY YEARS OF ENJOYMENT AND HAPPINESS IN HIS WELL-DESERVED RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that John Padgett will begin a well-earned retirement near the end of August 2021; and

Whereas, John Padgett graduated from Wofford College in 1975, where he was the catcher for the Terrier baseball team, but is also a converted die-hard Clemson Tiger; and

Whereas, after working as a real estate agent at Sloan Realty in Myrtle Beach, he became the owner and operator of Palmetto Plains Realty and Appraisals in Marion in 1983; and

Whereas, from 1991 to 2006, John Padgett served as the Marion County auditor and then became the legislative liaison for the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, where he has worked for fifteen years; and

Whereas, dedicated to his community, he has served as a former president of the Marion Rotary Club. He also is a past president of the South Carolina Auditors, Treasurers, and Tax Collectors Association, a past president of the South Carolina Association of Assessing Officials, and is a founding member of Wildlife Action, Inc.; and

Whereas, an avid outdoorsman, John Padgett enjoys the many hunting, fishing, and golfing opportunities afforded in the Palmetto State, and continues to be a fan of Wofford and Clemson sports; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Kathy Padgett, the retiring manager of the South Carolina State House Tour Office, he has reared two delightful daughters, Katy who lives in Murrells Inlet and Blythe who resides in North Augusta; and

Whereas, the couple plans to move to coastal South Carolina upon retiring at which time he will begin working on his "honey-do" list; and

Whereas, grateful for his many years of distinguished service to the Department of Motor Vehicles and civic contributions to his community and the entire Palmetto State, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in extending best wishes to John Padgett for his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor John Padgett, the legislative liaison for South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, upon the occasion of his retirement after fifteen years of exemplary service, and wish him much enjoyment and happiness in his well-deserved retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to John Padgett.
