A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO REMEMBER AND CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF FRANCISZEK WOJTKIEWICZ, TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON HIS PASSING, AND TO HONOR HIS REMARKABLE COMMITMENT TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Franciszek Wojtkiewicz, who dedicated himself to making a significant difference in the lives of his family members who were deeply saddened to learn of his death at the age of seventy-five on February 1, 2018; and
Whereas, born in the small Polish village of Ruhajce on January 1, 1943, he began life amid the ravages of World War II and as the grim years of rebuilding from the ashes lay ahead; and
Whereas, at the tender age of eighteen, Mr. Wojtkiewicz joined the Polish Army and later met his beloved wife, Marta, in the town of Opole in a factory that produced bed sheets; and
Whereas, they were married in July of 1968 in the town of Dobieszyn, just a few miles from where Marta had been born; and
Whereas, spending most of their life in Opole, together they reared two fine children, Marzena and Robert, who blessed them with the affection of three grandchildren: Nicole, Daniel, and Alexander; and
Whereas, Mr. Wojtkiewicz became a production supervisor and his wife was a production-line worker. They eventually opened their own bedding business together in Poland; and
Whereas, one summer when his granddaughter, Nicole Wojtkiewicz, was spending the summer in Poland with her grandparents, she gave her grandfather ten Zloty, less than three and a half dollars, and asked him to buy her a bike. The next day he presented her with a brand new red bike and took her out riding almost every night; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the life and legacy of Franciszek Wojtkiewicz and the example of devotion he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, remember and celebrate the life of Franciszek Wojtkiewicz, express their profound sorrow upon his passing, and honor his remarkable commitment to his loving family and his many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Franciszek Wojtkiewicz.
