A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE WRHI RADIO OF ROCK HILL AT THE CELEBRATION OF ITS SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THE ORGANIZATION FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, recognizing the importance of organizations that inform, and contribute to, the vibrancy of the communities that make up this great State, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that WRHI Radio of Rock Hill will hold a celebration on December 12, 2019, to mark its seventy-fifth anniversary; and

Whereas, on December 14, 1944, the first radio station in Rock Hill, only the ninth in South Carolina and one of only six hundred in the country, signed on the air at 5:30 a.m. under the call letters WRHI. Thus, the dream of founders Jim Beaty, Bill Beaty, and Sonny Carroll came to fruition, giving Rock Hill its own radio voice. The first broadcast in WRHI's history was dedicated to the veterans of World War II, a salute by the staff and ownership to Sonny Carroll and all American service members like him; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Manning Kimmel and Allan Miller, managing partners, and under the banner of the award-winning WRHI parent group, OTS Media, the present staff members of WRHI continue to earn the respect of the community by giving consumers the very best in news, talk, and sports programming. This is accomplished through broadcasting at 1340 on the AM band and 100.1 on the FM band; and

Whereas, over the years, WRHI has been honored with numerous awards. Among the most recent are the PSA STAR Award (Production) for "Toys for Happiness -- God Bless Us Everyone," the Public Affairs Program Award of Merit for Straight Talk, the Sportscaster of the Year award, and the Richard Uray Service Project Award of Merit for "Toys for Happiness," all won in 2018. WRHI also captured the 2017 Radio Station of the Year Award of Merit. It was the station's fifth time to take home this honor; and

Whereas, grateful for WRHI Radio's sustained commitment to excellence, the House takes great pleasure in congratulating the station on seventy-five years of broadcasting. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate WRHI Radio of Rock Hill at the celebration of its seventy-fifth anniversary and commend the organization for its many years of service to the community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to WRHI Radio.
