A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ALANISE RICARDO FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE HER ON WINNING HER DIVISION AT THE CAROLINA INVITATIONAL WRESTLING TOURNAMENT.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Alanise Ricardo, a member of the Greenwood High School wrestling team, took top honors in her division at the Carolina Invitational Wrestling Tournament held at Eastside High School in Taylors on Saturday, January 29, 2022; and

Whereas, the Carolina Invitational Wrestling Tournament, sponsored by the South Carolina Wrestling Association (SCWCA), is the last tournament of the season for qualified South Carolina Junior Varsity and Middle School wrestlers. This prestigious tournament, widely considered to be the "state tournament" for the coaches association, and which includes all of the best wrestlers from across the state, awards the top four places in Junior Varsity weight classes and fourteen Middle School weight classes. In 2011, to great success, a Girls division was finally added to the tournament, allowing them the opportunity to compete in this major state event; and

Whereas, completing her eighth grade season with a flourish, Alanise gave a nearly flawless performance, capturing her title as the 135 pound girls champion by going 2-0 with two pins and a phenomenal five point move to stand atop the podium. Finishing the season with a 15-2 record, her grit, determination, and desire to succeed are without question, and the competitive spirit she embodies will serve her well against both future opponents and future obstacles; and

Whereas, not solely focused on her own independent performance, Alanise competed as a part of the five-member Greenwood Lady Eagles wrestling team. Her performance, and the points she was able to accumulate, were vital to the narrow win and enabled her team to earn 75-73 against Indian Land. Without the combined efforts of Alanise Ricardo, Kennidi Washington, Angie Molina, Lilly Labounty, and Angelique Garcia, a team win would have been impossible, despite the outstanding performances of individual athletes; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing our State's successful young athletes, and they especially look forward to hearing more of Alanise Ricardo's exploits in the coming seasons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Alanise Ricardo for an outstanding season and congratulate her on winning her division at the Carolina Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Alanise Ricardo.
