A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE EDWARD ("TED") LAWRENCE DAUGHTREY UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF WHITE KNOLL HIGH SCHOOL, TO COMMEND HIM FOR OVER FORTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN EDUCATION, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, since 2016, students of White Knoll High School have enjoyed the benefit of the commitment, experience, and leadership of Principal Ted Daughtrey, who is retiring at the end of the 2021-2022 school year after a forty-two year career of outstanding service in education; and
Whereas, in preparation for life's work, he earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Virginia Tech and a master's degree in physical education with an endorsement in educational administration from Old Dominion University; and
Whereas, in 1978, Ted Daughtrey began his career as a teacher in the public schools of Norfolk, Virginia. In 1980, he took two years to work as a field representative for Atlantic Nuclear Services, before returning to the field of education, splitting his time as a teacher, dean of students, and assistant principal in the Norfolk public school system; and
Whereas, in 1998, he was hired as the principal of Granby High School in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served until 2016. While there, Principal Daughtrey improved the on-time graduation rate and promotion rate of first-time freshmen, developed a collaborative culture throughout the school, met or exceeded the annual federal and state benchmarks for student performance for eleven consecutive years, and implemented and facilitated data analysis discussion to improve teacher and student performances. For his efforts, he earned the Most Outstanding in Leadership and Vision Inspiration Award in 2001; and
Whereas, in 2016, Lexington School District One hired Ted Daughtrey to lead White Knoll High School as its principal. Putting his skills, experiences, and education to work for the State of South Carolina, Principal Daughtrey implemented a culture of collaboration and leadership at White Knoll these past six years with the goal of maximizing student performance and implementing strategies to improve the areas of greatest need; and
Whereas, recognized as a champion for his staff and students, Prinicipal Daughtrey has been described by Dr. Greg Little, Superintendent, as a "dedicated, caring leader with an incredible career in education;" and
Whereas, Ted Daughtrey serves as a shining example to other South Carolinians as someone willing to step into leadership positions, who led by focusing on organizational collaboration, and prioritized improved outcomes by maximizing student performance; and
Whereas, grateful for the legacy of commitment and the leadership Ted Daughtrey has bestowed on this great State, the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in wishing him all the best as he enters retirement and trust he will find much enjoyment in the more leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Edward ("Ted") Lawrence Daughtrey upon the occasion of his retirement as principal of White Knoll High School, commend him for over forty years of dedicated service in education, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Edward Lawrence "Ted" Daughtrey.
