A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF GARY HUDSON "BUCK" SMITH, JR., OF GREENWOOD AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gary Hudson "Buck" Smith, Jr., of Greenwood on January 15, 2020, at the venerable age of eighty-one; and

Whereas, born in Columbia on October 15, 1938, Buck was the son of the late Gary Hudson Smith, Sr., and Cora Covington Smith; and

Whereas, the young Buck Smith graduated from Camden Military Academy and attended Clemson University and The Citadel; and

Whereas, in time, he met and married Charlotte Clayton Smith (now deceased), and the happy couple founded a family; and

Whereas, Buck Smith retired from Worsley Oil Company and worked at Gatewood; and

Whereas, as a man of faith, he served as a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood; and

Whereas, he leaves to cherish his memory a son, Gary Hudson Smith III (Stephanie Young) of Aiken; a daughter, Kelley Smith Golden (Mark) of Piedmont; four grandchildren, Covington Carson (Bradley) of Greenville, Gary Hudson Smith IV (Leah) of Jacksonville, Florida, Tyler Smith of Aiken, and Madison "Maddie" Golden of Piedmont. He will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Gary Hudson "Buck" Smith, Jr., of Greenwood and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Gary Hudson Smith III for the family.
