A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE MR. QUENTIN BAXTER, MR. KEVIN HAMILTON, MS. QUIANA PARLER, MR. CLAY ROSS, AND MR. CHARLTON SINGLETON, ALL MEMBERS OF THE CHARLESTON-BASED MUSICAL GROUP, RANKY TANKY, FOR BRINGING RECOGNITION TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA THROUGH THEIR EFFORTS AND SUCCESS AS PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING A GRAMMY IN THE BEST REGIONAL ROOTS MUSIC ALBUM CATEGORY AT THE SIXTY-SECOND ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the musical group, Ranky Tanky, recently won a Grammy in the Best Regional Roots Music Album category for its sophomore album, "Good Time"; and

Whereas, winning a Grammy as a first time nominee is a strong signal of the band's growing popularity within the local community, as well as beyond the borders of the State. Exceeding their own initial expectations, Ranky Tanky has performed nearly every month since its inception in outdoor venues, concert halls, theaters and clubs, and has made appearances on "The Today Show," Public Radio International's "The World," and National Public Radio's "Fresh Air"; and

Whereas, initially formed in 2016, Ranky Tanky made its Lowcountry debut in April 2017. They have managed to connect with audiences, provoke enthusiastic responses from fans, and climb music charts with their special brand of soulful folk music that incorporates jazz, gospel, and a strong foundation rooted in Gullah culture and tradition; and

Whereas, as ambassadors of Gullah Culture through their music, they are making Grammy history as the first-ever album of Gullah music to receive a nomination. Their win, and the efforts that went into creating their album and sharing their music bring the genre to the international mainstage, as well as bring positive recognition to the Gullah community, and

Whereas, appreciative of their talent and skill as musicians, the House takes great pleasure in saluting Quentin Baxter, Kevin Hamilton, Quiana Parler, Clay Ross, and Charlton Singleton who comprise this fantastic musical group who have brought positive recognition and accolades to the Palmetto State through their many efforts and successes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and celebrate Mr. Quentin Baxter, Mr. Kevin Hamilton, Ms. Quiana Parler, Mr. Clay Ross, and Mr. Charlton Singleton, all members of the Charleston-based musical group, Ranky Tanky, for bringing recognition to the State of South Carolina through their efforts and success as professional musicians and congratulate them on winning a Grammy in the Best Regional Roots Music Album category at the Sixty-Second Annual Grammy Awards.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Quentin Baxter, Mr. Kevin Hamilton, Ms. Quiana Parler, Mr. Clay Ross, and Mr. Charlton Singleton.
