A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE COMMUNITY ACTION NETWORK at the celebration of its sixtieth anniversary and to commend the organization on more than a half-century of FIGHTING THE WAR ON POVERTY.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Community Action Network is celebrating sixty years of fighting the war on poverty. Created as a result of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, community action agencies promote self-sufficiency for citizens with limited income; and
Whereas, community action agencies offer a variety of services to our residents, including employment, education, housing, income, management, health, nutrition, energy, and general emergency assistance; and
Whereas, by offering innovative and cost-effective programs designed to meet the changing and specific needs of individuals and families, community action agencies in South Carolina have made positive and lasting differences in the lives of citizens in all forty-six counties of our State; and
Whereas, community action agencies play an important role in providing individuals and families who have limited income the necessary resources to help improve their lives and living conditions. These agencies have impacted 125,876 people in 54,269 families with low incomes; and
Whereas, the fourteen South Carolina community action agencies have served 19,669 people who lacked healthcare, 18,380 people who reported having a disability, 14,333 senior citizens, 41,900 children living in poverty, and 891 veterans and active military servicemembers. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Community Action Network at the celebration of its sixtieth anniversary and commend the organization on more than a half-century of fighting the war on poverty.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Community Action Network.
