A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JOHN TINDAL, SUPERINTENDENT OF CLARENDON SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER FORTY-FIVE YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate have learned that John Tindal will begin a well-deserved retirement after forty-five years as a premier educator, the last seventeen of which have been as a highly-regarded superintendent of Clarendon School District Two; and
Whereas, to prepare for a career in education, Mr. Tindal earned degrees from Morris College and Winthrop College, now Winthrop University, and began teaching in Lee County Schools in 1974; and
Whereas, throughout his distinguished career, he served as an administrative assistant, assistant principal, principal, Associate Superintendent for Instruction and Educational Programs, and superintendent in three school districts in South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Tindal was named superintendent of Orangeburg School District One in 1993. After former State Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum assumed management of Allendale County Schools in 1999, she appointed Mr. Tindal to be superintendent. Since 2002, he has served as superintendent of Clarendon District Two; and
Whereas, Superintendent Tindal was elected to serve as a member and as chairman of the Marlboro County Board of Education, and in his election as the board's chairman, he became the first African American elected to a countywide office in Marlboro County; and
Whereas, appointed to the State Board of Education in 2004 by the Clarendon County Legislative Delegation, he served as a member and chairman of the South Carolina State Board of Education; and
Whereas, devoted to his profession, Superintendent Tindal has been a member of numerous professional organizations during his career and has held prestigious leadership positions in them. He served as president of both the South Carolina Superintendents Association and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators: and
Whereas, he has served his community as a member of the Clarendon County Economic Development Board, currently serving as its chair; on the Pee Dee Education Center Board of Directors; and as a member of the Manning Rotary Club and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. A faithful member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, he serves as a deacon and was a Sunday school teacher; and
Whereas, Superintendent Tindal's stellar work has been recognized with such honors as being named the 2006 South Carolina Rural Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Rural Summit; and
Whereas, together Mr. Tindal and his beloved wife of forty-five years, Carol, a retired teacher from Sumter 17, reared two fine sons and have been blessed with the affection of two grandchildren; and
Whereas, grateful for his long and distinguished service to education in our State, the South Carolina Senate is greatly pleased to extend best wishes to John Tindal as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor John Tindal, Superintendent of
Clarendon School District Two, upon the occasion of his retirement after forty-five years of exemplary service as an educator and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Superintendent John Tindal.
