A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE ORGAE MAE HENDLEY JOHNSON OF MULLINS, SOUTH CAROLINA ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to learn that Orgae Mae Hendley Johnson celebrated her one hundredth birthday on January 4, 2020; and
Whereas, a native of Statesboro, Georgia, Orgae Hendley Johnson was born on January 4, 1920 to the late Bishop Oscar and Josephine Hendley. She was the second of nine children; and
Whereas, as a young child, she moved with her family to South Carolina, where she excelled at the Marion County Training School and ultimately worked on the family farm and in the churches established by her father; and
Whereas, Ms. Johnson was married to the late Deacon Joseph Johnson, and together, they had six children, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. As a family and an extended family, they always prioritized education; and
Whereas, a woman of great faith, she is a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she has served on the Senior Choir, on the Deaconess Board, in the Pastor's Support Ministry, and as President of the Missionary Ministry for thirty-five years. In this latter role, she established the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Annual Prison Outreach Program and the Nursing Home Outreach Program. She also served as a liaison for the Little Pee Dee Baptist Association Women's Auxiliary and the South Carolina Baptist Education and Missionary Association Women's Auxiliary; and
Whereas, in recognition of her commitment and faithfulness, Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church named her the mother of the church. She has counseled and consoled many individuals in the community, assisted those in need, and served as a true prayer warrior; and
Whereas, a woman of great distinction, Ms. Johnson has been faithful to her family, her church, and her community. Her passion for God and compassion for people is evident in all that she does; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Orgae Mae Hendley Johnson of Mullins, South Carolina on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Orgae Mae Hendley Johnson.
