To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 1268) to request the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 315 in Jasper County from its intersection with South Carolina Highway 170, etc., respectfully

A concurrent RESOLUTION

to request the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 315 in Jasper County from its intersection with South Carolina Highway 170 to its intersection with United States Highway 17 "Bishop Deloris M. Young Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this portion of highway containing these words.

Whereas, Bishop Deloris Young received the prestigious Ridgeland Branch NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday, August 19, 2023; and

Whereas, in pursuit of her career in ministry, Bishop Young has earned a bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree in her field; and

Whereas, a leader in her profession, Bishop Young is the founder and senior pastor of the Greater Pentecostal Temple, Inc., in Hardeeville, a ministry she has overseen since its inception in 1981. She is affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, where she made history as the first woman appointed as Bishop within the Southeastern District; and

Whereas, a devout Christian, Bishop Young serves the Lord in various diverse positions at the state and national levels. She is the CEO of Agape Family Life Center, Inc., a community development corporation, where programs and services are established to improve the quality of life for Jasper and Beaufort County communities. Agape Family Life Center's mission is to empower children and families by providing opportunities in education, nutrition, and wellness; and

Whereas, over the years, Bishop Young has received many honors and awards, including the WTOC Hometown Hero award in 2007; the Gospel Today Magazine's Most Loved Pastors award in 2001 and 2007; the Jasper County Unsung Hero award in 2010; and the Jasper County Living Legend award in 2011. She also served as Grand Marshall for Hardeeville-Ridgeland High School in 2017 and is currently an inaugural member of the South Carolina Effective Leaders Fellowship Cohort. Furthermore, as a result of Dr. Young's great leadership, Agape Family Life Center has received the 2023 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Organization Trailblazer Award; and

Whereas, Bishop Young is a local and international speaker. Her travels have taken her throughout the United States, Europe, and South Africa; and

Whereas, for more than sixty years Bishop Young has been married to Elder Joseph Young, Sr., a union that produced four children, ten grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Bishop Young's dedicated service to the people and the State of South Carolina is admirable and worthy of recognition by having a portion of highway in Jasper County named in her honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 315 in Jasper County from its intersection with South Carolina Highway 170 to its intersection with United States Highway 17 "Bishop Deloris M. Young Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this portion of highway containing these words.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
