relating to the offense of failure to attend school. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 25.094(a), Education Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(a) An individual commits an offense if the individual: | ||
(1) is 12 years of age or older and younger than 21 | ||

(2) is required to attend school under Section 25.085 | ||
or a school district policy adopted under that section; and | ||
(3) fails to attend school on 10 or more days or parts | ||
of days within a six-month period in the same school year or on | ||
three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period. | ||
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act to Section | ||
25.094, Education Code, apply only to an offense committed on or | ||
after the effective date of this Act. An offense committed before | ||
the effective date of this Act is covered by the law in effect | ||
immediately before the effective date of this Act, and the former | ||
law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
