relating to requiring coursework in economics for an associate or | ||
baccalaureate degree program at a public institution of higher | ||
education. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 51, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 51.311 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 51.311. ECONOMICS. (a) In this section, "institution | ||
of higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003. | ||
(b) An institution of higher education may not award an | ||
associate or baccalaureate degree to any person unless the person | ||
has credit for at least three semester credit hours or the | ||
equivalent for a course in economics that dedicates equal time to | ||
macroeconomics and microeconomics. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 51.311, Education Code, as added by this | ||
Act, applies only to a student who enrolls in an associate or | ||
baccalaureate degree program at a public institution of higher | ||
education on or after January 1, 2024. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
