A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to notification by an institution of higher education to a
  school district of certain students referred to developmental
  coursework.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 51.3062, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (i-5) to read as follows:
         (i-5)  In September and February of each year, an institution
  of higher education shall notify a school district of the number of
  students who received a high school diploma from the district and
  who the institution referred to developmental coursework to address
  the student's deficiencies in the student's readiness to perform
  freshman-level academic coursework.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
