| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 51.3062, Education Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (i-5) to read as follows: | ||
| (i-5) In September and February of each year, an institution | ||
| of higher education shall notify a school district of the number of | ||
| students who received a high school diploma from the district and | ||
| who the institution referred to developmental coursework to address | ||
| the student's deficiencies in the student's readiness to perform | ||
| freshman-level academic coursework. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
