relating to election information provided to voters through a | ||
mobile application for wireless communication devices. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 31, Election Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 31.014 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 31.014. ELECTION INFORMATION MOBILE APPLICATION. (a) | ||
The secretary of state, in conjunction with the Department of | ||
Information Resources, shall develop a mobile application for | ||
wireless communication devices and make the application available | ||
to the public. | ||
(b) The application must allow a person to access | ||
information relevant to a voter in this state, including: | ||
(1) a secure digital copy of the voter's registration | ||
card, subject to the restrictions imposed by Section 18.066(b); | ||
(2) information on the scheduled dates for early | ||
voting and election day, including the delivery of notifications | ||
reminding the voter of those dates; | ||
(3) sample ballots; | ||
(4) information on how to vote and the identification | ||
required to vote under Section 63.001(b); | ||
(5) a map or list by county of polling place locations | ||
and hours for voting; | ||
(6) current and historical election results; and | ||
(7) other information relevant to a voter in this | ||
state, as determined by the secretary of state. | ||
(c) The secretary of state shall coordinate with election | ||
officers in each county of this state to ensure that information | ||
provided through the application is accurate and up to date. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
