relating to protection from employment retaliation for reporting | ||
the existence of certain policies, patterns, or practices of a | ||
local entity or institution of higher education related to | ||
immigration. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 752, Government Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 752.0535 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 752.0535. RETALIATION PROHIBITED FOR REPORTING | ||
VIOLATION. A local entity or institution of higher education may | ||
not suspend or terminate the employment of, or take other adverse | ||
personnel action against, a public employee who in good faith | ||
reports to an appropriate law enforcement authority the existence | ||
of a policy, pattern, or practice of the employing entity or | ||
institution that violates Section 752.053. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
