relating to review and approval of advanced placement courses by | ||
the State Board of Education. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 28.009, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsections (a-6) and (a-7) to read as follows: | ||
(a-6) The State Board of Education shall review any advanced | ||
placement course offered for compliance with: | ||
(1) the school laws of this state; and | ||
(2) the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the | ||
board. | ||
(a-7) A school district may only offer advanced placement | ||
courses that comply with: | ||
(1) the school laws of this state; and | ||
(2) the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the | ||
State Board of Education. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 28.023, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: | ||
(a-1) For purposes of this section, a board of trustees may | ||
approve only an advanced placement examination that is for an | ||
advanced placement course offered in accordance with Section | ||
28.009. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
