A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the requirement for a report by a state agency on the
  request for a study from an institution of higher education.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 2052, Government Code, is amended by
  adding Subchapter E to read as follows:
  SUBCHAPTER E. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS
         Sec. 2052.351.  DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter:
               (1)  "Institution of higher education" has the meaning
  assigned by Section 61.003, Education Code.
               (2)  "State agency" means a department, commission,
  board, office, council, authority, or other agency in the
  executive, judicial, or legislative branch of state government that
  is created by the constitution or a statute of this state.
         Sec. 2052.352.  REPORT TO LEGISLATURE ON STUDY REQUEST. A
  state agency that requests the performance of a study from an
  institution of higher education shall, not later than the 30th day
  after the date of the request, submit to the legislature a report
  including:
               (1)  a summary of the subject and purpose of the study;
               (2)  the institution of higher education from which the
  study was requested; and
               (3)  the anticipated cost of the study.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
