A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to requiring public junior colleges to award course credit
  to students who hold a Child Development Associate credential.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 130, Education Code, is
  amended by adding Section 130.0107 to read as follows:
         Sec. 130.0107.  CREDIT FOR COMPLETION OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT
  ASSOCIATE CREDENTIAL. In accordance with rules adopted by the
  Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a public junior college
  shall award at least six semester credit hours or the equivalent to
  a student enrolled in the junior college who holds a Child
  Development Associate (CDA) credential.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
  academic year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
