Code. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 273, Election Code, is amended by adding | ||
Subchapter F to read as follows: | ||
SUBCHAPTER F. CIVIL PENALTY | ||
Sec. 273.101. CIVIL PENALTY. (a) In addition to any other | ||
applicable civil or criminal penalty, a person who commits an | ||
offense prescribed by the election laws of this state is liable to | ||
this state for a civil penalty. The attorney general may bring an | ||
action to recover a civil penalty imposed under this section. | ||
(b) Unless otherwise provided by a provision of this code, a | ||
civil penalty imposed under this section shall be not less than | ||
$100,000. | ||
(c) A civil penalty collected by the attorney general under | ||
this section shall be deposited in the state treasury to the credit | ||
of the general revenue fund. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
