relating to a study conducted by the Texas Education Agency on the | ||
financial costs of providing educational services to persons who | ||
are not lawfully present in the United States. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. STUDY ON COST OF PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL SERVICES | ||
TO PERSONS NOT LAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES. The Texas | ||
Education Agency shall conduct a study to determine the financial | ||
costs incurred by the agency and by public school districts | ||
statewide during the 2017-2018 school year as a result of providing | ||
educational services to persons who are not lawfully present in the | ||
United States. | ||
SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2018, the | ||
agency shall deliver a report of the agency's findings to the | ||
governor, lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the house of | ||
representatives. The agency shall publish the report on the | ||
agency's Internet website. | ||
SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires February 1, 2019. | ||
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect | ||
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members | ||
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas | ||
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for | ||
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
