relating to permits for certain vehicles being operated in | ||
connection with a motor sports racing event. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 623, Transportation Code, | ||
is amended by adding Section 623.0172 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 623.0172. MOTOR SPORTS RACING EVENT PERMIT. (a) In | ||
this section, "motor sports racing event" means an automobile | ||
racing event and all activities leading up to that event, including | ||
administration, testing, practice, promotion, and merchandising, | ||
that is sanctioned by the Automobile Competition Committee for the | ||
United States (ACCUS). | ||
(b) The department shall issue a permit that allows a person | ||
to operate over a state highway or road a combination of vehicles | ||
that exceeds the length limit provided by law if the combination of | ||
vehicles: | ||
(1) does not exceed 85 feet in length; and | ||
(2) is being operated: | ||
(A) for personal, noncommercial use; and | ||
(B) primarily or exclusively in connection with a | ||
motor sports racing event. | ||
(c) A permit issued under this section: | ||
(1) is valid for 15 days; and | ||
(2) must be carried in the vehicle for which it is | ||
issued. | ||
(d) A person is not eligible for a permit under this section | ||
if, during the preceding 12 months, the person has been issued a | ||
permit under this section five or more times. | ||
(e) The department may adopt rules necessary to implement | ||
this section, including rules governing the application for a | ||
permit under this section. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
