relating to the requirement that an applicant for a license to | ||
practice medicine recite the Hippocratic oath. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 155.002, Occupations Code, is amended by | ||
amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c) to read as | ||
follows: | ||
(a) The board, at its sole discretion, may issue a license | ||
to practice medicine to a person who: | ||
(1) submits to the board a license application as | ||
required by this chapter; | ||
(2) presents satisfactory proof that the person meets | ||
the eligibility requirements established by this chapter; [ |
||
(3) satisfies the examination requirements of Section | ||
155.051; and | ||
(4) recites the Hippocratic oath, as provided by | ||
Subsection (c). | ||
(c) The board by rule shall provide the text of the | ||
Hippocratic oath that each applicant must recite under Subsection | ||
(a). The board shall adopt rules on the manner by which an applicant | ||
may satisfy the requirement under Subsection (a)(4). | ||
SECTION 2. Section 155.002(a), Occupations Code, as amended | ||
by this Act, applies only to a person who submits a license | ||
application to the Texas Medical Board on or after January 1, 2014. | ||
A person who submits a license application to the Texas Medical | ||
Board before January 1, 2014, is governed by the law in effect on | ||
the date the license application was submitted, and the former law | ||
is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
SECTION 3. Not later than December 31, 2013, the Texas | ||
Medical Board shall adopt the rules required by Section 155.002(c), | ||
Occupations Code, as added by this Act. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
