A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to whom certain violations of the law by a state or local
  governmental entity may be reported.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (a)  A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or
  terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action
  against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of
  law by the employing governmental entity or another public employee
  to:
               (1)  the chief administrative officer of the employing
  governmental entity;
               (2)  the inspector general's office of the employing
  governmental entity, if any;
               (3)  the reporting employee's immediate supervisor or
  the supervisor of the reporting employee's immediate supervisor at
  the employing governmental entity; or
               (4)  an appropriate law enforcement authority.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
