| relating to compensation of school district trustees. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 11.061(d), Education Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| (d) The trustees serve without compensation, unless | ||
| compensation of a specified amount is approved by the district. The | ||
| trustees' compensation may not be paid from state or federal funds. | ||
| Notwithstanding this subsection, a person may not receive | ||
| compensation for serving as a trustee if the person: | ||
| (1) holds an office other than the position of trustee | ||
| that is considered a civil office of emolument under Section 40, | ||
| Article XVI, Texas Constitution; or | ||
| (2) receives compensation for other services directly | ||
| or indirectly from the state. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2025. | ||
