relating to the powers and duties of a commissioners court to levy | ||
and collect taxes on behalf of a navigation district. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 62.160, Water Code, is amended to read as | ||
follows: | ||
Sec. 62.160. MAINTENANCE TAX. (a) The commissioners courts | ||
of the respective counties inside each district may levy and have | ||
assessed and collected for the maintenance, operation, and upkeep | ||
of the district and the improvements constructed by the district an | ||
annual tax not to exceed 10 cents on the $100 valuation on all | ||
property inside the district. | ||
(b) In the event of the tax being suspended by a district | ||
located in a county with a population of not less than 400,000 and | ||
not more than 4 million that borders the Gulf of Mexico, or a county | ||
that borders the Gulf of Mexico and is adjacent to such a county, | ||
the tax may be reinstated upon request by the district to the county | ||
tax assessor-collector. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
