| relating to membership in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 821.001(6), Government Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| (6) "Employee" means a person who is employed , as | ||
| determined by the retirement system, on other than a temporary | ||
| basis by an employer in any position for at least one-half time at a | ||
| regular rate of pay comparable to that of other persons employed in | ||
| similar positions. The minimum number of hours required for | ||
| one-half time employment must be the same for all categories of | ||
| employees. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the member s elected to each house , as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect , this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
