| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 35, Utilities Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 35.153 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 35.153. ELECTRICITY STORAGE GOAL. The commission, in | ||
| coordination with the independent organization certified under | ||
| Section 39.151 for the ERCOT power region, shall adopt rules | ||
| necessary to meet a goal of having electric energy storage capacity | ||
| to meet twenty percent of peak summer and winter demand within ERCOT | ||
| by December 31, 2026. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. | ||
