A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the inclusion of instruction promoting the achievement
  of certain comprehensive environmental, economic, and social goals
  in the social studies curriculum for public school students.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (w) to read as follows:
         (w)  In adopting the essential knowledge and skills for the
  social studies curriculum under Subsection (a)(1)(D), the State
  Board of Education shall adopt essential knowledge and skills that
  promote innovative ways to achieve comprehensive goals related to
  current environmental, economic, and social problems.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
  school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
