| municipality. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 43.054, Local Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Subsections (d) and (e) to read as follows: | ||
| (d) A municipality may not annex an area if the width of the | ||
| area at the widest point exceeds the length of the area at the | ||
| longest point. | ||
| (e) The prohibition established by Subsection (d) does not | ||
| apply if: | ||
| (1) the boundaries of the municipality are contiguous | ||
| to the area on at least two sides; or | ||
| (2) the area abuts or is contiguous to another | ||
| jurisdictional boundary. | ||
| SECTION 2. The change in law made by Section 43.054(d), | ||
| Local Government Code, as added by this Act, applies to an area | ||
| proposed for annexation on or after the effective date of this Act | ||
| or before the effective date of this Act if the statutory | ||
| requirements for annexation under Subchapter C or C-1, Chapter 43, | ||
| Local Government Code, have not been completed before the effective | ||
| date of this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
