relating to a peace officer training advisory committee. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 1701.2511 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 1701.2511. OFFICER TRAINING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a) | ||
The officer training advisory committee is created. The committee | ||
is composed of: | ||
(1) one member of the legislature, appointed by the | ||
governor and designated by the governor as the chair of the | ||
committee; | ||
(2) three members of the senate, appointed by the | ||
lieutenant governor; and | ||
(3) three members of the house of representatives, | ||
appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives. | ||
(b) The committee shall conduct a study of the training | ||
programs the commission establishes and maintains under this | ||
chapter for officers who are required to hold a license as provided | ||
by Section 1701.301. The study must take into account the school | ||
curriculum, examination requirement, and training programs | ||
required for a person who seeks to become licensed as an officer. | ||
(c) The committee shall meet at the call of the chair. | ||
(d) Not later than December 1, 2020, the committee shall | ||
report the committee's findings and recommendations to the members | ||
of the legislature. The committee's recommendations must include | ||
ways to improve the training programs provided by the commission to | ||
persons who seek a license as an officer under this chapter. | ||
(e) This section expires December 1, 2021. | ||
SECTION 2. Not later than November 1, 2019, the relevant | ||
appointing officers shall appoint the members of the officer | ||
training advisory committee under Section 1701.2511, Occupations | ||
Code, as added by this Act. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
