relating to School Bus Safety Week in public schools. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 34, Education Code, is amended by adding | ||
Section 34.0022 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 34.0022. SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK. (a) To educate | ||
students and raise community awareness about the importance of | ||
school bus safety, the third full week in October is designated as | ||
School Bus Safety Week. | ||
(b) The agency, in consultation with the Department of | ||
Public Safety, shall develop a school bus safety program for | ||
implementation in public schools. | ||
(c) During the designated week, each school district shall | ||
provide the school bus safety program developed under Subsection | ||
(b) to students at every grade level. The program shall be open to | ||
the public and the district shall encourage parents and other | ||
community members to participate. | ||
(d) The commissioner shall adopt rules to administer this | ||
section. | ||
SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2015, the Texas | ||
Education Agency shall develop the school bus safety program | ||
required under Section 34.0022, Education Code, as added by this | ||
Act. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
