relating to creating a criminal offense for a candidate for public | ||
office who misrepresents the candidate's residency. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 141, Election Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 141.005 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 141.005. UNLAWFUL MISREPRESENTATION OF RESIDENCY | ||
STATUS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person knowingly or | ||
intentionally misrepresents the person's residency to appear | ||
eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public | ||
elective office in this state. | ||
(b) An offense under this section is a felony of the third | ||
degree. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
