BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 101, Election Code, is amended by adding | ||
Subchapter D to read as follows: | ||
SUBCHAPTER D. FEASIBILITY STUDY OF ONLINE PROCESSES FOR OVERSEAS | ||
MILITARY PERSONNEL | ||
Sec. 101.151. FEASIBILITY STUDY OF ONLINE PROCESSES FOR | ||
OVERSEAS MILITARY PERSONNEL. (a) The secretary of state shall | ||
conduct a study to consider the feasibility of creating an entirely | ||
electronic process for a person eligible for early voting by mail | ||
under Section 101.001(2)(A) or (B) to: | ||
(1) register to vote; and | ||
(2) request an early voting ballot to be voted by mail. | ||
(b) The study must examine what assistance the secretary of | ||
state could provide to counties to facilitate implementation of the | ||
processes described by Subsection (a). | ||
Sec. 101.152. EXPIRATION. This subchapter expires | ||
September 1, 2019. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
