WHEREAS, Joseph I. O'Neill III of Midland has greatly | ||
benefited his fellow citizens through his outstanding | ||
contributions as a business and civic leader; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Los Angeles, California, Joey O'Neill | ||
earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Notre | ||
Dame in 1967 and a master of business administration degree from the | ||
University of Michigan in 1968; after completing his graduate | ||
studies, he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army | ||
12th Special Forces Group in 1968 and 1969, followed by five years | ||
in the reserves, during which he was assigned to the 12th Special | ||
Forces and the 458th Military Intelligence Detachment; and | ||
WHEREAS, Since 1972, Mr. O'Neill has been a managing partner | ||
in O'Neill Properties, Ltd., following in the footsteps of his late | ||
father, the renowned oilman Joseph I. O'Neill Jr.; highly respected | ||
by his peers in the industry, Joey O'Neill has played a prominent | ||
role in the Texas Oil and Gas Association, serving as a district | ||
vice president and as a member of the board and the executive | ||
committee, and he has held several offices with the U.S. Oil and Gas | ||
Association, the Independent Petroleum Association, and the | ||
Permian Basin Petroleum Association; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to his community, | ||
Mr. O'Neill has been active with the Midland Chamber of Commerce as | ||
a member of its board of directors and the Forward Midland | ||
committee; his support of Midland Memorial Hospital has encompassed | ||
such leadership responsibilities as chairing the hospital's | ||
foundation and serving on its board of governors, board of | ||
trustees, and strategic planning committee; moreover, he has held | ||
the titles of president and campaign chair for the United Way of | ||
Midland and has helped guide the Midland Symphony and Chorus | ||
Association in addition to assisting numerous other organizations | ||
and institutions, including Midland College and The University of | ||
Texas of the Permian Basin; a longtime member of the Republican | ||
Party, he has been a delegate to the party's national and state | ||
conventions on a number of occasions and was regional finance chair | ||
for George W. Bush's gubernatorial and presidential campaigns; and | ||
WHEREAS, This tireless volunteer has remained a loyal alumnus | ||
of Notre Dame, having served on the university's board of trustees | ||
for many years; he has also lent his time and insight to the Notre | ||
Dame Athletic Affairs Committee and has likewise been part of the | ||
College of Engineering Advisory Council and the board of directors | ||
for the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association, which he | ||
previously led as president; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. O'Neill enjoys the love | ||
and encouragement of Jan O'Neill, his devoted wife of 45 years; they | ||
are the proud parents of a daughter, Catherine, and a son, Patrick, | ||
and they have two treasured granddaughters, Molly and Maeve; and | ||
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Joey O'Neill has set an | ||
inspiring example of the good that one dedicated individual can | ||
accomplish, and he may reflect with great pride on his sterling | ||
record of service to his profession, his community, and his alma | ||
mater; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
hereby honor Joseph I. O'Neill III for his exceptional achievements | ||
as a business and civic leader and extend to him sincere best wishes | ||
for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. O'Neill as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. | ||
