BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 23, Article 5, Texas Constitution, is | ||
amended to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 23. There shall be elected by the qualified voters of | ||
each county a Sheriff, who is the chief law enforcement officer of | ||
the county, who shall hold the [ |

years, whose duties, qualifications, perquisites, and fees of | ||
office, shall be prescribed by the Legislature, and vacancies in | ||
whose office shall be filled by the Commissioners Court until the | ||
next general election. | ||
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2013. | ||
The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the | ||
proposition: "The constitutional amendment designating the | ||
sheriff as the chief law enforcement officer of the county." |
