WHEREAS, Proud residents of Liberty County are gathering in | ||
Austin on February 19, 2025, to celebrate Liberty County Day at the | ||
State Capitol; and | ||
WHEREAS, Liberty County was established in 1836 as part of | ||
the independent Republic of Texas, with Liberty as the county seat. | ||
Originally, the county included all of what would become Tyler | ||
County and parts of Hardin, Chambers, San Jacinto, and Polk | ||
Counties; and | ||
WHEREAS, Located midway between Beaumont and Houston, | ||
Liberty County is divided by the Trinity River and features both | ||
Coastal Prairie and Big Thicket landscapes. The economy initially | ||
thrived on crops like cotton, sugarcane, and tobacco, as well as | ||
lumber and cattle. In the early 1900s, it diversified with the | ||
increased cultivation of rice and the discovery of oil and natural | ||
gas; and | ||
WHEREAS, Liberty County boasts a rich history and abundant | ||
natural resources, and its residents can take great pride in their | ||
achievements as they continue to work toward an even brighter | ||
future; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby recognize February 19, 2025, as Liberty County | ||
Day at the State Capitol and extend sincere best wishes to the | ||
visiting delegation for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin. | ||
