| WHEREAS, A group of students from The University of Texas at | ||
| El Paso distinguished themselves by winning first place in the | ||
| CubeCorps competition sponsored by the United Launch Alliance; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Established to encourage hands-on science, | ||
| technology, engineering, and math experiences, the CubeCorps | ||
| program provides an opportunity for university students to design a | ||
| miniature satellite, known as a CubeSat, and compete for a chance to | ||
| have their project launched into space; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A skilled team from the UTEP MIRO Center for Space | ||
| Exploration and Technology Research developed the winning CubeSat | ||
| model, Orbital Factory II, which will demonstrate on-orbit repair | ||
| of solar cells using 3-D printing technology; it is scheduled to | ||
| travel aboard an Atlas V rocket and be placed into an elliptical | ||
| orbit approximately 26,000 miles above Earth's center in 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through their ingenuity, insight, and dedication to | ||
| excellence, these exemplary students have earned distinction for | ||
| their school and the Lone Star State, and they may indeed take | ||
| justifiable pride in their notable achievement; now, therefore, be | ||
| it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate the student team from The | ||
| University of Texas at El Paso for its first-place finish in the | ||
| United Launch Alliance CubeCorps competition and extend to all | ||
| those involved with the winning project best wishes for continued | ||
| success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for The University of Texas at El Paso as an expression of | ||
| high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
