WHEREAS, For many years, Grand Prairie has hosted a Cinco de | ||
Mayo parade and festival that has become a beloved tradition for | ||
residents from all walks of life; and | ||
WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo commemorates May 5, 1862, when the | ||
Mexican army achieved victory over French forces at the Battle of | ||
Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War; over time, the holiday has | ||
grown into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, and it has | ||
gained a great deal of popularity in Mexican American communities; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The Cinco de Mayo event in Grand Prairie kicks off | ||
with a parade through the city's downtown area and also features an | ||
assortment of food and entertainment, including performances from | ||
mariachi bands and folklorico dancers; and | ||
WHEREAS, Every year, residents and visitors flock to Grand | ||
Prairie's Cinco de Mayo celebration to share in the vibrant | ||
traditions that help define Mexican culture, and this occasion | ||
provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the many ways that the | ||
community is enriched by the contributions of Mexican Americans; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate Grand | ||
Prairie's Cinco de Mayo Parade and Celebration and extend to its | ||
organizers sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the City of Grand Prairie as an expression of high | ||
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
