R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For many years, Grand Prairie has hosted a Cinco de
  Mayo parade and festival that has become a beloved tradition for
  residents from all walks of life; and
         WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo commemorates May 5, 1862, when the
  Mexican army achieved victory over French forces at the Battle of
  Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War; over time, the holiday has
  grown into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, and it has
  gained a great deal of popularity in Mexican American communities;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Cinco de Mayo event in Grand Prairie kicks off
  with a parade through the city's downtown area and also features an
  assortment of food and entertainment, including performances from
  mariachi bands and folklorico dancers; and
         WHEREAS, Every year, residents and visitors flock to Grand
  Prairie's Cinco de Mayo celebration to share in the vibrant
  traditions that help define Mexican culture, and this occasion
  provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the many ways that the
  community is enriched by the contributions of Mexican Americans;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate Grand
  Prairie's Cinco de Mayo Parade and Celebration and extend to its
  organizers sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the City of Grand Prairie as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
