WHEREAS, Alyssa Alva of Pearsall High School earned great | ||
distinction by becoming the 4A champion of the 198-pound weight | ||
class at the 2019 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting | ||
Association State Championships, held on March 15 and 16 in Waco; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Alva racked up 1,100 total pounds with lifts of | ||
460 in the squat, 235 in the bench press, and 405 in the deadlift to | ||
best her closest rival by 15 pounds; claiming a gold medal in her | ||
third appearance at state, she closed out her exemplary high school | ||
career as Pearsall's first state powerlifting champion since 2013; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, A fierce competitor who also collected two crowns in | ||
three trips to the regional meet, Ms. Alva has benefited from the | ||
able guidance of Pearsall powerlifting coach Michael Bonugli; and | ||
WHEREAS, With her championship performance, Alyssa Alva has | ||
brought great pride to her family, school, and community, and she | ||
will cherish the memories of this outstanding accomplishment for | ||
the rest of her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Alyssa Alva on winning the 4A title | ||
in the 198-pound weight class at the 2019 THSWPA State | ||
Championships and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued | ||
success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Alva as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
