| WHEREAS, Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi | ||
| Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on March 11, | ||
| 2009, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and | ||
| WHEREAS, On that day, a routine traffic stop turned violent | ||
| when the driver assaulted the officer who had stopped him and fled | ||
| in his vehicle; in an effort to stop the driver with road spikes, | ||
| Lieutenant Alexander positioned himself on the shoulder of the | ||
| highway some distance ahead, but the driver swerved and fatally | ||
| struck him; at the time of his death, Lieutenant Alexander was 47 | ||
| years old and a 20-year veteran of the department; he left behind | ||
| his wife, his son, and three grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the | ||
| courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as | ||
| Lieutenant Alexander, who willingly put themselves in harm's way | ||
| each day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow | ||
| citizens; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of | ||
| Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi Police | ||
| Department. | ||
