WHEREAS, Noted businesswoman and public-spirited citizen | ||
Fran Bonilla was honored as an Exemplary Woman of Irving at a high | ||
tea on November 6, 2011; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Gilmer, Fran Bonilla settled in Irving in | ||
1959; she entered the commercial real estate business in 1968 and | ||
founded her own commercial real estate company in 1985; a member of | ||
the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce and a regional | ||
brokers' association, she is a recipient of the Ken Yancey Small | ||
Business Development Award; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Bonilla has taken an active role in public | ||
affairs, serving for a decade on the Irving City Council and holding | ||
the posts of deputy mayor pro tempore and mayor pro tempore; while | ||
on the city council, she chaired the planning and development | ||
committee and served on the finance committee; in addition, she has | ||
served on the Irving Planning and Zoning Commission, served on air | ||
quality and law enforcement committees of the North Central Texas | ||
Council of Governments, and represented Irving on the National | ||
League of Cities International Economic and Development Committee; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, This industrious Texan has further shared her time | ||
and energy as a charter member of the steering committee of the | ||
Trinity River Authority, as a member of the Heritage Crossing | ||
Communications Committee, as chair of the Irving Heritage Society | ||
Board, and as a board member for Irving Preservation and | ||
Redevelopment, Irving Cares, and the local YWCA; moreover, she has | ||
chaired a task force for the Irving Independent School District and | ||
helped to establish the city's Teen Court, an alternative system of | ||
justice for young offenders; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Bonilla attends the First United Methodist | ||
Church of Irving, where she is a valued member; she is the proud | ||
matriarch of a family that includes 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 9 | ||
great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, An accomplished professional and a highly esteemed | ||
community leader, Fran Bonilla has done much to make Irving an even | ||
better place in which to live and work, and she is indeed deserving | ||
of recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor Fran Bonilla as an Exemplary Woman of | ||
Irving and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be | ||
it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Bonilla as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
