WHEREAS, El Paso residents celebrated the opening of the | ||
Mercado Mayapan Farmers' Market on June 4, 2011; and | ||
WHEREAS, Housed in a former garment factory, Mercado Mayapan | ||
is a community-operated center that includes an artisan | ||
marketplace, a food court, a plaza for special events, and a museum | ||
exhibiting the history of Mexican immigrant women who worked in the | ||
garment industry; and | ||
WHEREAS, This notable venture, imbued with the rich cultural | ||
heritage of El Paso, was established by La Mujer Obrera, an | ||
organization dedicated to fostering employment, education, and | ||
health and nutrition programs; and | ||
WHEREAS, Promoting local agriculture, wholesome foods, and | ||
community spirit, the Mercado Mayapan Farmers' Market will benefit | ||
area residents for years to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the opening of | ||
the new indoor farmers' market at Mercado Mayapan in El Paso and | ||
extend to all those associated with the market sincere best wishes | ||
for continued success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for La Mujer Obrera as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
