| WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and | ||
| generosity of Hattie Valerie Elizabeth Marshall of Houston, who | ||
| passed away on April 17, 2017, at the age of 68; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The daughter of James and Rolena Marshall, Hattie | ||
| Marshall was born on August 22, 1948, in Houston, and she grew up | ||
| with the companionship of four siblings, Sylvia, Elsie, Jeff, and | ||
| James; a bright and dedicated student, she graduated from Jack | ||
| Yates Senior High School in 1966 and went on to earn a bachelor's | ||
| degree from Prairie View A&M University; she later received her | ||
| master's degree from Texas Southern University, where she continued | ||
| her education as a doctoral student; and | ||
| WHEREAS, One week after her college graduation, Ms. Marshall | ||
| accepted a position with the Houston Independent School District | ||
| and embarked on a rewarding career as an educator and counselor that | ||
| spanned more than four decades; she was highly supportive of her | ||
| students, with whom she developed a strong rapport, and she earned | ||
| the admiration and respect of her colleagues; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Ms. Marshall was a valued | ||
| member of the Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church | ||
| community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Hattie Marshall will be remembered for her | ||
| eloquence, her warmth, and her sense of style, and those who were | ||
| fortunate enough to have known her will forever hold her close in | ||
| their hearts; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hattie Valerie | ||
| Elizabeth Marshall and extend sincere condolences to her family and | ||
| friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hattie | ||
| Marshall. | ||
