WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their | ||
memories of Flavio Villarreal Sr. of El Sauz, who passed away on | ||
March 8, 2021, at the age of 88; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of Hipolito and Isidra Villarreal, Flavio | ||
Villarreal was born on February 15, 1933; after graduating from | ||
Roma High School in 1952, he answered his nation's call to duty by | ||
joining the U.S. Army; he was stationed in Germany for 18 months | ||
during the Korean War, and he later continued his service in the | ||
Army Reserve; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Villarreal was joined in marriage with the | ||
former Ernestina Alaniz in 1958, and they shared a loving union that | ||
spanned 62 years until her death in 2020; they became the parents of | ||
three children, Flavio, David, and Irene, and later in life, their | ||
family grew to include five grandchildren and eight | ||
great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Villarreal and his family resided in Rio Grande | ||
City during his long career with the U.S. Customs Service, and after | ||
his retirement in 1988, he settled on his ranch in El Sauz; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Villarreal served on | ||
the board of the Valley Telephone Cooperative for 16 years, and he | ||
was also a member of the boards of Starr County Soil and Water | ||
Conservation District No. 332, the Medina Electric Cooperative, | ||
and the Starr County Appraisal District; he was active in the VFW | ||
and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 9982 and a faithful | ||
parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; in his free | ||
time, he delighted in singing and playing instruments with his | ||
relatives and friends; and | ||
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, an engaged citizen, and a | ||
proud veteran, Flavio Villarreal lived a rich and purposeful life, | ||
and he leaves behind a legacy of service that will continue to | ||
inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Flavio Villarreal | ||
Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Flavio | ||
Villarreal. | ||
